World Day of Prayer
Joint day of prayer on March 7th
It’s a global ecumenical movement initiated by Christian women in the late 19th century. Its motto is: “informed prayer and prayerful action.”
This movement takes the form of a joint day of prayer, every year, on the first Friday of March, celebrated in over 120 countries. For 24 hours around the world, the same words in a diversity of languages invite us to pray to the Lord.
Each year, women from a different country design and write an ecumenical celebration. They wish to share their country, their daily life, and be in communion with others. This year, it’s the women from the Cook Islands with the theme “Thank You, You Created Me Wonderfully” (Psalm 139).
The women affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and play an essential role in the world.
The offerings collected during the celebration fund educational, social, health, or economic projects for women and children.
In the Bergerac area, we have formed a group of Christian women who relay this celebration and lend their voices to the women who created it.
We invite you to this ecumenical celebration ( french spoken) on Friday, March 7th at 6:30 PM at the Saint-Luc chapel.
A specific time of prayer will be offered to the children present.
The celebration will be followed by a friendly potluck with flavors from the country.
